Dr. M. Mayilvaganan as per Indian academic records, also go by Mayilvaganan Muthumariappan in international records is the Founder, and Director of CHSIA. His vast expertise lies in the field of International Affairs, with a particular focus on Asia and the Indo-Pacific region. With a wealth of experience spanning over two decades, he has actively contributed to a diverse array of multidisciplinary research, project management, and educational endeavors. Dr. Mayil specializes in geopolitical and foreign policy analysis, maritime security and ocean politics, as well as borderland and non-traditional security issues. He offers a range of services including consultancy, writing, and speaking engagements customized to meet the needs of a wide spectrum of clients and audiences. Furthermore, Dr. Mayil has authored numerous publications on topics pertaining to Asia and Indo-Pacific, and has overseen policy-oriented research projects funded by external grants.
Dr. Mayil is a Consultant at Communitology, based in Burlington, Vermont, USA. In addition, he holds the position of BOBP Fellow at the Bay of Bengal Programme (BOBP), an inter-governmental initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, headquartered in Chennai, India. Previously, he held positions such as Associate Professor at the International Strategic & Security Studies Programme (ISSSP), School of Conflict and Security Studies (SCSS), National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bangalore, India, where he led research studies on South and Southeast Asia, Indo-Pacific, Foreign Analysis of major powers, Borderland studies and Non-Traditional Security Challenges; Visiting Senior Lecturer at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur where he taught South Asia in International Relations, Modern Warfare and International Politics; Associate Fellow at the Institute of Defence Studies and Analysis (IDSA), New Delhi specializing in Sri Lanka and Research Associate at the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (IPCS), New Delhi, focusing on Kashmir, among other professions. He also spent some time as a researcher in Canada and in the U.S. He holds a PhD degree from the School of International Studies in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, India.
Dr. Mayil is dedicated to advancing his professional development through the enrichment of his expertise and knowledge in the fields of international affairs, foreign policy, public policy, security studies, human rights, refugees and public health. He possesses a distinct inclination towards global geopolitics, strategic and foreign policy analysis related to India, China, the U.S., Japan, and the Indo-Pacific nations, with a specific emphasis on South Asia and South East Asia. Furthermore, his interests extend to maritime affairs, non-traditional security challenges such as migration, refugees, climate change, conflict and peacebuilding, as well as borderland studies.
